My new training-mate: Garmin Edge 705



So that's my new training-mate, my Garmin Edge 705. After many discussions with my mother, we taken the decision to purchase it on chainreaction. I explained to her, than always training alone with just heartrate data can be so boring and the Garmin could give me more data to adjust my training during the season. I also told her than it could be a big help for us when we go on races to find the place of the race :)


So we did a 50/50 to buy it, I think it's a very great deal for me... Thanks mother!!!!! :D


I'll try it tomorrow for the 55min bike part of my weekly brick training workout.

Winter Training: Base 1 Period






Today I have finished my preparation period. After 2 weeks of it, I can say than I'm ready for serious winter training. I feel strongest than every years before (@ the same period).


So next week, I'll start the base 1 period of my winter training. It'll be a 3 weeks period with growth training volume (17hrs - 20hrs - 22hrs), and following by a rest and recovery week where I'll do my first physical test in an Institute of sport medecine.


During this 1st period, I'll keep a brick training workout by week, this workout is really a good surprise for me, I like it. I'll also continue weight training, 3 times by week, during this new period I'll make a transition from "anatomical adaptation phase" to "maximum strength phase", like it name say it'll be the hardest phase of weight training. At the end of this MS phase I'll do a test based on Joe Friel's load goals (You can check my personal goals at the end of this post). In addition of this 2 training workouts, base 1 period will be the period to begin bike endurance training (2 to 3 times by week) and speed skills workout on home-trainer, who help me to pedal smoothly to improve pedaling economy. I also keep some workout on ths stability ball because I'm sure is one of the best tool to improve balanced and to do core exercices.

My MS load goals:
The goal'll be to lift 6 times or more...


- 110kg in squat
- 55kg in seated row
- 45kg in standing row





So now winter training is on... It's time to training hard!!!

Preparation Period and Stability Ball



So after Transition period (shortened), I start preparation period now for 2 weeks. During this period, I will stay focus on alternative workouts like weights, running, brick training and swimming. Since the beggining of this period, I do some special workouts on a "Stability ball". I discover it thanks to my girlfriend, who make a project (for her studies) about the benefits of "Stability ball" on the physical preparation in Judo. I think it'd be great for mountainbikers too because this ball is of course great to work stability and agility, but it can also work the deep muscles. That's why I think it's a good alternative workout to improve technical abilities and feel more balanced on the bike.

Winter Training Update




As a part of my studies of physical education, I must go to a winter sports week in France, the first week of february. So I make a lil' modification about my training plan, I'll begin it one week earlier than scheduled. As here, I can plan a rest & recovery week during my school winter trip. I also plan to put my bike and the home-trainer in France to do some light workouts after snowboarding ride... Before this trip, I'll do a serious training camp in Croatia maybe from the 20th to the 27th of january, but I need to confirm it soon.

Back to training: Transition period




After 2 weeks of rest, I'll start tomorrow a transition period before serious winter training. This period of 2 weeks is a low volume period with some musculation workouts and cross-training... I'll try a new workouts for me: the brick training, bike and run training. We will see if it'll be benefit for me. But for the moment it's just like a cool warm-up to prepare the winter training.

* My goals for 2010


For me 2010 season will be a test season for the future. Last days, I worked on a serious winter training planning to improve my level to the top and see if my training method is good for me or not... The first target will be to earn 20 UCI points to partcipate @ some World Cup races. After that I'll focus on Croatian national championships in July I wish a podium, we will see!!! Of course I'll add some others little goals but I must to wait and see my fit during the season before thinking of them.
